Heart for Ipswich is a recently established project aimed at enabling Christians from many churches to work together more closely to help meet the social and spiritual needs of the people of Ipswich, and to proclaim the good news of the Gospel.

It is run on a voluntary basis by a small team of lay people and supported by a Council of Reference containing church leaders from a number of local churches.

Network Ipswich is one of several initiatives planned or supported over the longer term by of Heart for Ipswich. These will be headlined in the Network Ipswich news pages, or you can find out more at heart4ipswich.org.uk

Network Ipswich > about us > What is Christianity

WhitisChirst

Christians are people who respond to the love of God which Jesus has shown us.  Jesus left two guiding principles for his followers:

•    Love God and
•    Love one another

Loving God can often seem difficult. You can’t see Him, touch Him or smell Him, and it’s often hard to even believe that He’s there at all. But loving God begins with loving all that He embodies - justice, mercy, faithfulness and hope, but above all else, love. From there a relationship with God can begin.

Christianity is all about relationships, about making the world a better place - into the loving community God intended it to be. That's not to say that Christians always get it right - we don't - but God always forgives us when we come humbly to Him and, if we let Him, helps us to do better next time. Life with God is a journey of discovery, in which we are free to transform ourselves into all that we can be. Only when we submit our lives to God, to the love and goodness that He embodies, are we truly free to experience the depth that life has to offer.

The Bible discusses this in many different ways, but two specific references you may want to consider are found in the book of John, chapter 3, and the book of Romans, chapter 10.

Whether you know God or not, there are many Christian groups in Ipswich who can offer you a loving community of relationships. You can find out about them on this website. Whoever you are, there are Christians across our town who can help you to understand God better. Please contact any of the churches or groups listed on this site, or ask us to do it for you, if you’d like to get to know God in the context of this kind of community.

A Statement of Faith
based on the traditional Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only son of God,
Who was not created but rather has always existed with the Father,
Jesus is true God from true God, of one being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin called Mary.
He was made man and physically came to earth.

For our sake he was crucified, suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he physically rose again in line with what the Bible says.
He went back up into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life.
With the Father and the Son, the Holy Spirit is worshipped and glorified.

We believe in one holy universal Church; the forgiveness of sins through Christ; the resurrection of the body, and everlasting life.
