Pray-ers needed for the Ipswich Night Shelter

FionaFiona Abbott from the Ipswich Night Shelter team wants to draw together pray-ers to support the project by praying regularly for various aspects of the work

She said “I am keen to draw together regular pray-ers for the night shelter. We will seek to offer hope and hospitality to those who are homeless, by offering food, shelter and support to the most vulnerable people in our town.”

“As Christians, we do this in the powerful name of our Lord Jesus, and by touching heaven with our prayers we are breaking the chains of despair and hopelessness.  Please use some of the following suggestions as you pray in faith.”
  • Thank God for the vision for Ipswich Winter Night Shelter (IWNS) and for His timing; for the support that the project is generating in the town and the other agencies that are becoming involved.
  • Pray for all those individuals and agencies currently working with the homeless in Ipswich and surrounding areas.
  • Bring before God those you have met or have noticed who are homeless in Ipswich, and for all those you do not know about: Pray for God’s protection over them, that they will find help from the appropriate agencies. That IWNS will offer each individual guest the hope and comfort that they most need.
  • Pray for those who sell The Big Issue.
  • Pray for those with drug or alcohol addictions and health issues of any kind.
  • Bring before God any fears and prejudices, pray that we will connect with our neighbours who God loves and who are made in his image.
  • Pray that those who volunteer would listen, be discerning of individual needs, and show Jesus’ compassion.
  • Thank God for the churches that are hosting the night shelter.*
  • Pray that they will offer a tangible expression of God’s love through their hospitality.
  • Pray that each night will be fully staffed with the right people.
  • Pray that volunteers from the community would see God’s love in action as we serve him.
  • Pray for the church co-ordinators and for those who are managing the project, for wisdom, clarity of thought, time and protection:-
