Ipswich Minister’s 15,000 foot sky-dive for charity

Steve Jay, a minister at the Hope Church in Ipswich, is taking part in the tandem skydive for the Christian charity Talitha Koum on Wednesday 17th August. He will be briefed at an airfield in north Lincolnshire for 25 minutes before his tandem skydive, free fall from up to 15,000 feet, and land after a lengthy canopy ride.

stevejaySteve, 52, lives in Kesgrave and is married with 4 children and 3 grandchildren. He said: “This is an exciting challenge which I am really looking forward to. It gives me the opportunity to put my beliefs into action to raise money to help these vulnerable women recover from their addictive behaviour. Please help me support Talitha Koum.”

Talitha Koum will provide a residential Christian therapeutic community based on a farm, just outside Ipswich. The residential centre will help women who are recovering from drug and alcohol addictions, giving them support to change their lives for the better.

Talitha Koum is supported by Bishop Nigel, who is Patron of the charity.

John Cobbold, Chief Executive of Talitha Koum, said: “I am delighted that Steve is taking part in this thrilling sky-dive for Talitha Koum, especially as he has the same heart of compassion for vulnerable people as we do. We look forward to raising funds to help us start work building in the Autumn of this year. Well done Steve.”

The charity, which already has planning permission for the centre, is optimistic that building work will start on the accommodation for the women in the Autumn of 2011, subject to raising much need funding.
They hope to help the first six women in the summer of 2012.
